3.0- Communication Technologies in Reality

Artificial intelligence tools developed:

Currently, Samantha's technology still lies beyond our reach. The closest technology we have would be Google Now and Amazon Echo. These two technologies are almost identical in concept- an intelligent personal assistant with natural language user interface (LUI or NLUI). NLUI are a type of computer human interface where linguistic phenomena such as verbs, phrases and clauses act as user interface controls for creating, selecting and modifying data in software applications (Wikipedia, 2016).

Amazon Echo, personal assistant and control hub for all smartphone devices.

Just recently, Google also announced another upgraded version of Google Now on Google I/O which can engage in a two-way dialogue with user- the Google Assistant. This means that it is more similar to Samantha which is more sentient. But how sentient it is is the question we would not be able to know yet as everything is still under development.

A more realistic communication technology where people actually communicate with people, not operating system, is social media. I think the social media is slowly changing the way people interact and receive information. Facebook made information so fluid with just one share button. Popular platforms like Instagram and Twitter advocate the idea of instant and concise. One photo at one time instead of album and word limit on post are evidences. People in this digital age demands something that is instant and convenient which shed a light on how designer should design user interface.
