2.0- Fictional Movies that Explore the Future Communication Technologies

According to TechTarget.com (2005), ICT (information and communications technology) is an umbrella term that includes any communication device or application, encompassing: radio, television, cellular phones, computer and network hardware and software, satellite systems and so on, as well as the various services and applications associated with them, such as videoconferencing and distance learning.

Some movies that explore the future of communication technologies:
  • The movie Total Recall portrays communication technology in an omnipresent way. It has holographic technology(life-size 3D moving image of another person) and when characters place their hands on certain solid surfaces, such as a glass window, it transforms into a display screen.
  • The J.A.R.V.I.S computer system that can be seen in Iron Man is most notable for its hand gesture manipulation and nonexistent computer screen. This communication technology is portrayed to be convenient, intelligent (to sensory and audio) and requires minimal use of physical device.
  • As for the movie sequel- The Matrixology, it narrates a dystopian future caused by technology taking over mankind.
The pros that these advance communication technologies share in the movies are they seem to aid efficiency and convenience in human life. The cons or dystopian consequences are communication technologies seem to be too advanced that human are slowly losing humanity (Her, The Matrixology) and too powerful that it can invade human privacy (dream recording device and implanted memories to manipulate character in Total Recall).
